How to Practically Avoid Affiliate Marketing Scams
Category: Affiliate Marketing Scams | Jul 01, 2009 |

Affiliate marketing is a great opportunity for those who want to venture out on their own. The minimal risk and zero start up costs make it an attractive option to many. Affiliate marketing programs are perfect for those people who are motivated and self starters. They are also great for those who want to set their own working hours.
The internet has helped us change so many aspects of our lives. We can study and work from home with the help of a computer and high speed internet access. However, there are unfortunately lots of scammers out there ready to take either your money or your work to use for their benefit. Many of these email scam programs and work at home schemes have little hope of amounting to any kind of living.
Unfortunately, these scammers have made their way into the world of affiliate marketing as well. There are some excellent affiliate marketing programs to get involved with; the trick is how to spot the scammers.
The face and manner of the internet and affiliate marketing is constantly changing. This makes it very difficult to produce a definitive list of do’s and don’ts. However, there are some signs that one can look for. If your company displays any of these signs it does not mean for sure that they are con artists. However, it should warrant further investigation.
An affiliate marketing program should always provide you with some support. This can include an agent that you can contact with questions or problems. A legitimate company should want you to do well. The better you do the better they do. It should at very least contain a toll free phone number, email address and fixed street address. If your company is an online affiliate marketing program, the lack of an email or web page should definitely raise some red flags. Other things such as no phone or address do not mean necessarily that they are trying to scam you. However, you need to investigate them with a fine tooth comb.
A good test is to send the company an email with some basic questions. If it takes them weeks to get back to you then you need to give this venture careful consideration. Again, they may not be out to con you but if they are poor at communication, this could be a sign of other internal problems.
If the company has no website then you should consider something else. Legitimate affiliate marketing programs generally have a detailed website with all the information you need. One should be suspicious of companies that operate only by email. A website is fairly easy to create so why hasn’t this company invested the time to do so? Also, a website leaves a bit more of a trail to a company. If they do end up scamming you, the chances of tracing the people via a website are much better then tracing them through masses of email addresses.
Many of us would love the opportunity to work for ourselves. We would love to chuck in the day job and start our own businesses. However, the costs of starting a business combined with the risk involved stop most of us before we even get started. Affiliate marketing is a great way to make some money by working for yourself.
The costs are none and the risk minimal. One needs to use some caution when signing onto a program. Make sure there is adequate support available to you. Make sure the company is contactable and that they answer queries in a timely fashion. Be incredibly cautious of companies that have no website. These factors do not always mean that the company is out to scam you; however they should be looked at carefully.

Thanks
No, it's an opportunity for you to show your selling skills and you will be rewarded if you are good at it.
Please choose your affiliate program carefully.
I highly recommend http://www.clickbank.com if you want to get started.
From my experience I would suggest you learn about affiliate marketing & the techniques used by successful affiliate marketers first, before you attempt to make any money. You will save a lot of time & avoid common mistakes made by those new to this business.
Luckily all the information to learn about affiliate marketing is available free. The source listed below has many free ebooks, & master courses on the subject. There are also videos if you prefer learning that way.
The site features a product review of Site Build It which is used by thousands of people to build an online business. They monetize theirs sites with affiliate programs, adsense & other forms of advertising to name a few.
That is what has helped me the most because they have a clear, simple to follow action guide that shows you step by step what to do. You end up with a website that ranks high in the search engines. This is how you will get a steady flow of traffic from the seach engines. And in order to make money with affiliate marketing online, you will need a lot of targeted traffic.
They also teach you how to Presell your traffic before you send them to your affiliate links. This is how successful affiliates have a higher conversion rate. Affiliate marketing is a skill that takes time to learn how to do effectively. But if you are up for it, the information is there for you. Best of Luck…
You could focus your niche on things people really want, not what they need because not many people buy what they need they buy what they desire!
You could go to ebay and check the ebay pulse section and find out what people are searching for and buying the most, and then drill down into that niche so that you are not competing in a general niche where thousands of other people are promoting their stuff.
The Lycos top 50 is also another good source to find out what is being searched for the most.
When you find a hot niche you will need to milk it for all it's worth! which means setting up a website with articles on the niche you have chosen, plus the affiliate products you want to promote on there as well.you could also set up an autoresponder so that you can catch peoples email address so that you can carry on selling to them even when they have left your site.
You will also need to write some unique articles based on highly searched for keywords that have low competion anything under 50,000 competing pages should be fine, submit them to ezine articles and include your link to your website in your authors resource box,try to write at least one article per day.
if you do not want to pay for a website then you can easily set up a free blog with either blogger or wordpress.
remenber to update it daily.
another way to get traffic to your site or blog is to set up a squidoo page on a specific subject in your niche and link it back to your site or blog.
There is a lot more than this to it but if you take it step by step and continue to build around your niche then over time you will start to see the money coming in.

Once you have a quality site with decent traffic you can push a product on there. CJ.com is pretty good if you get a lot of traffic. (they will cancel your account if you don't produce enough traffic)
Firstly, check out for http://seriousppccoaching.com for some more in depth info on this.
No, I don't think it is a scam but there does seem to be a few bad reviews of the site on some of the webmaster forums.
If I was you I would join PPC Coach instead. I joined a few months ago after I read some of the most respected affiliate marketing blogs (Nicky Cakes, Zac Johnson, Johnathon Volk) giving really excellent reviews. I don't like talking about how much I earn but I'm on target to earn more this month and next month then I did all of last year. It really is all due to the info and help that PPC Coach provided me with.
Clickbank is a well respected market place for affiliate marketing other products. It is used by many many internet marketers including the very successful. You can see more details on the site itself. Briefly, after you have opened a free account:
1) You review the market place and find an item that you think that you can sell. The commission rates are shown – they are usually range about 40-55% but can be more or less.
2) Get you link to sell the item. Clickbank explains this for you. Now cloak the link so that it cannot be stolen.
3) Write some description of the item on your web site, a review etc and then insert the link on your site.
4) Promote your site. When someone purchases the item – they are sent through your link to the affiliate owners site who then takes the money and delivers the product.
5) Your share then appears in clickbank – who take out their expenses and send you a periodic check for the difference.
Clickbank handles the payment process.
You can also look at paydotcom.com which is owned by Mike Filisiame who is an extremely well respected and trusted marketer. (butterfly marketing)
You could also look at Clikkads.com which provides adsense type ads using clickbank products.
Well I work with a company that uses affiliate marketing and network marketing. It would be silly to say that affiliate marketing is a scam. Scroll to the bottom of any major website and there will be a little link that says "become an affiliate". Affiliate marketing pays on performance and saves companies millions of dollars in advertising alone. Your job is to be aware of what it takes for an affiliate marketing or network marketing company to be successful. That way when looking at a company you can make a legitimate assessment of whether that company is a good option for you. I say this because the average Joe will ask his poor friend/neighbor/relative for financial advice rather than educating themselves. If you find a good company the potential for creating residual income is amazing. I did my best to put in my two cents, if you still have questions just send me an email.
